Trouble Waking Up? 5 Ways To Kick-Start Your Day

Hello and welcome to our site. Thanks for visiting and we wish you a happy day.

Do I have to get up...

How do you wake-up? Do you wake up, mind buzzing, vibrant and keen to get-up and stuck into your day? Or do you wake up fuzzy headed, tired from another sleepless night and dread the thought of getting-up?

If waking up is a challenge for you or you have problems sleeping and wake up tired and anxious-here are five simple wellbeing wake-up tips to reenergise and ease you into your day.

Did you know the way you wake up sets the tone for the rest of your day?

Have you noticed how you feel when you wake up rested and refreshed? In yoga you are taught to greet the day with a glad heart, to be grateful you have woken up and given another day of life. That sense of gratitude helps put your worries in perspective and gives you a boost to tackle any issues or challenges you face. You feel stronger, clearer and more decisive about setting your intentions for the day ahead.

5 Simple Wake-Up Tips To Boost Your Energy

If you have trouble waking up and want to feel more alive and revitalised, follow these five Wake-Up and Get-Up tips.

Wake-Up Tip #1 Stretch Your Body

Take a few minutes to practice a few simple yoga breathing exercises or yoga stretches when you wake up. This will help to sweep the cobwebs from your mind and ease minor aches and pains from your body. Once you feel a bit more energetic it is easier for you to be positive and ready for your day.

Suggestion: Before you get out of bed, practice these simple yoga in bed stretches you will feel more vitalised and ready to get up.

Wake-Up Tip#2 Hydrate Your Brain

Being dehydrated is often the cause of feeling lethargic and sluggish when you wake up. Your body consists of about 70-80% water and your brain consists of 80-85% therefore it is vital to ensure you keep your body and brain hydrated as water is the main carrier of oxygen and other vital nutrients around your body.

Suggestion: Drink a couple glasses of warm water with a slice of lemon in it. Make this your first drink/meal of the day. My favourite drink is hot water, so I fill a flask with hot water before going to bed and when I wake up it is there ready and waiting for me.

Wake-Up Tip#3 Write It Down

If you tend to wake up with worrying thoughts, rather than lie there replaying and mulling them over, write them down. The process of writing helps to release the negative energy attached to your thoughts.

Suggestion: Keep a pen and paper, or a journal by your bedside. When you wake up spend the first seven minutes writing down your waking and worrying thoughts. And/or if you can recall your night time dreams, write them down as well. Writing your dreams out often helps you find a solution to your worries.

Wake-Up Tip #4 Keep A Gratitude Journal

If you wake up and feel anxious about the day ahead, a few minutes spent reading something positive about your life helps you to reconnect you with the goodness in your life.

Suggestion: Carry a little note book around with you, during your day make a conscious effort to jot down all the random acts of kindness or things you see which make you smile or feel good about yourself. It can be as simple as a stranger offering you a seat on the way to work or a work colleague offering to make you a cup of tea. Keep the notebook under your pillow and read it aloud when you wake up. Even if you have to go in the bathroom to read them aloud, just do it. You will smile and feel all fuzzy and warm inside as you recall the moment.

Wake-Up Tip#5 Read Inspirational Books

This is one of my favourite ways to greet my day. Read something inspirational and uplifting before you get out of bed. Then if you wish spend a few more minutes reflecting on what you have read, you can even spend that time writing down what impact the passage had on you.

Suggestion: During the day, keep your eyes open for inspirational and life-affirming quotes, books or even images. Keep them by your bedside and read a passage or two whilst still in bed. You will feel inspired and motivated to get up and be the best you can be.

  1. Hot water..its lovely. Try it with a stick of cinnamon or fresh mint from the garden. Its amazing, when I am out in company, especially at restaurants, it totally throws waiters when I ask for hot water. ..Pardon Madam, did you say hot water. yes. And how would madam like her hot water (I often long to say “hot will do”..)..all fun and games. Have a great day.

  2. Ntathu, you’re the third or fourth person I know who likes to drink hot water. I’ve never been able to acquire a taste for it, but it seems the others recommend it when trying to cut out caffeine. At least you try to make it palatable with lemon! 🙂

Good tips – it’s 6:55 AM here, so they couldn’t have come at a better time!
