Never Give Up! (origin unknown)
How often do we find ourselves giving up when all seems lost? When defeat is knocking at the door, do we shrink and accept our fate? Who decides that failure is the only possible outcome? What if at the last second we are able to turn the tables and rally your troops to victory? Will we ever know if we continue to give up when our minds tell us there’s no hope?
Example 1 – Zebra vs. Lion
When you think about the above pairing, what outcome comes to your mind? Probably one that involves a lion eating a zebra, right? Had this been any other day with any other zebra, you would have been right. But in this case, the zebra decides that it’s never too late to succeed. Check it out:
I don’t know about you, but I would call it quits once I was inside the jaws of a lioness!
Example 2 – Wales vs. Tanzania
They say you know you’re doing well in track when you look around and are surrounded by Africans. On this occasion, runner Steve Jones knew that feeling all too well. He is being tailed by the 10,000m champion from Tanzania and the world cross-country champion from Ethiopia. To top it off, the announcers have no faith in him either. If you listen closely, you’ll hear one of them say casually, as if it’s common knowledge, “…and of course he’s got very little finishing speed.” How would you like someone saying that about you in the hardest moment of your life? Let’s take a look at Mr. Jones’ response:
The Strength to Win
Whatever you’re facing, know this – defeat is never certain. You never know when the odds will change in your favor. And if you give up before the end, you will never know what you could have accomplished. In every case, the will to win comes from inside. Sheer determination is the only thing that can defeat imminent failure.
When the entire universe seems to be piling up against you, remember, it is only your decision to quit that can keep you from your ultimate goal. Never give up, never surrender!

Brandon,
It is nice to see you here! Hajra introduced me to this blog and I am glad she did.
I almost didn’t want to hit play on the video but then I remember this is a “don’t give up” post. I knew the zebra got away.
What a great way to bring in your point of never give up. We usually see the zebra lose the fight but not this time.
Persistence and patience will win always.

Brandon’s an excellent writer who seems to prefer to stay behind the scenes, where he is a fantastic web designer and webmaster. You should look for more of his posts, here and on Weblogbetter.com, too.
I know Brandon from Triberr, we go back. But it has been a while since I have seen his writing. Super nice guy with some skills at designing.

Yep – he’s the mastermind behind the Frog and coordinating layout. We all had input into choosing the underlying theme, but I think most of the credit for our winning Best Design the first week really goes to him.

I was telling someone today how I started using my blog posts as shorthand for real conversation.
I would be guilty of this; I feel I always give up too quick; I don’t wait “for action” till the end. I want to but somehow the easy person in me let’s go….

That’s the thing – you can’t ever quit until you can’t go on anymore, or something else takes priority.

Great post, Brandon! Both videos are very inspirational.
I remember my second NaNoWriMo, I went into the last day needing more than 10,000 words to reach a win. Since I had to work that day, I thought for sure I would not make it. But an early snow (for Texas) made business slow where I worked, so I got to go home early that day. And that gave me the time I needed to be able to push for the win — as well as give me the belief that I could make it on the last day, a belief that served me well last year when I came from 13K behind to win.
(Oh, and since that second one, I’ve made sure to ask of for Nov 30 so I would have plenty of time if I needed it
Just last week, the Cardinals proved the same point in game 6. The Rangers led until the 9th when the Cardinals tied it. In the top of the tenth, the Rangers again picked up a 2 run lead, only to have it tied again in the bottom. And in the 11th, the Cardinals broke through, after being behind or even most of the game.
I like how Les Brown puts it. “It ain’t over until I win.”
Great post!

I agree that Zebra was so deliberate in it’s attempt to put the cat’s face underwater, the level of thinking was quite remarkable. |
Good fight
Everybody can learn something!
Wow, that Zebra was lucky to be standing in water. Would the Zebra have fallen eventually anyway due to wound infection as most animals do from severe bites? Or does that miss the point?
Justin Germino recently posted..What Tech Gifts Are You Getting This Holiday Season?
Haha, yes Justin, that misses the point entirely
But thanks for reading! Remember Eeyore? I can imagine Eeyore saying, “Well, I’ll probably just die later from an infection anyway. Might as well just give up now.” That’s why this zebra will forever be awesome!
The narrator does say the wounds are only superficial and that he should be fine. I imagine you have to have some kind of robust immune system to survive the Serengeti. Thanks for stopping by!

Eeyore is my wife’s favorite character from Pooh, we saw the latest movie in theaters. When they start sneezing and he say’s “I’ll probably catch it too” classic.
I agree that Zebra was so deliberate in it’s attempt to put the cat’s face underwater, the level of thinking was quite remarkable. It literally looked like it was trying to push the lion’s face underwater and drown it.

Isn’t Eeyore everyone’s favorite? What would happen to the poor donkey if he KNEW how loved he was?
I LOVED Bud Lucky as Eeyore! Perfect choice for that part! And the whole pit scene… Best part of the whole movie. Loved everyone’s reaction to Owl… But that’s a whole different topic

K
That’s awesome. Thanks for this post!
God video. Wish I had popcorn!
I meant “good” video. And I meant the one with the zebra that kicked that lion’s ass.
So, how would you be with a video of a frog kicking a boot? Just hypothetically speaking, that is…
LOL – well, all creatures bright and beautiful, eh?
:: passes you the popcorn :: Butter?
Did you ever see this video? http://youtu.be/Kr5ZCkKDt7A NEVER give up.
But ya it makes sense not to give up. If one has to give up then why try; just forget it and sit like you have been defeated and if one to fight, then fight it out till the end. The whole point is that we start something to win it or achieve it and not be the one who back off because they don’t think they can.
Ok,I may be talking a lot and not doing much; but this is what I believe I need to work on.

Brandon..such an inspirational post..especially the videos. Success is often just around the corner and sometime we do give up through lack of support or people believing in us.
inspirational as well as quite funny, i did a double take when the zebra started to drown the lion!! thanks for sharing
